See how we hand make ceramics, take a peek inside our artisan studio.
We created Taller Gingell to make small batch heirloom ceramics. We started our business with the thought and hope that folks appreciate craft, workmanship and the beauty of unique objects.
The idea - make by hand ceramics with craftsmanship and care that reflect both tradition and what’s happening today.
Modern ceramics made by a two person (and one dog) artisan pottery studio.
High quality, unique and durable ceramics ready for everyday use - and your family! 😂
What do we mean by craftsmanship and care?
• Our clays come from local sources near our studio
• We select clay and fire our products for durability that will last for years
• 100% renewable energy is used to fire our ceramic kilns
• 100% ethical insurance, we support peace ✌️and kindness ❤️
WHAT CUSTOMERS SAY
We Thought, Is Craft Something Folks Still Care About Today?
So, we set up our artisan ceramics studio to find out… here's what they said!
“Very beautiful place with very friendly people. Small, meticulously arranged workshop and very kind craftsmen who do a wonderful job!”
“Poble Sec at it's best: A ceramics shop - and so MUCH more! It's this kind of place which makes the whole neighborhood of Poble Sec - and maybe even the entire city [of Barcelona] - so special. You'll meet a fantastic team - Wendy & Eric + their cute dog Isabell, a beautiful shop with an extraordinary feel, and last but not least: outstanding products! All sorts of ceramics are made with so much taste and elegance! When you step into the store, be prepared for lovely conversations + exploring their beautiful creations for absolutely fair prices, ... a perfect spot... to pimp your dinner table to the next level!”
“Such beautiful bowls. I love them. These are even more beautiful in real life than the photos. Thank you.”
“Absolutely beautiful mugs in person. I can almost ‘taste’ the personal attention to detail in every cup of coffee. Thank you for making my occasional quiet coffee mornings even more special with your mugs.”

“If you go to [Barcelona] do not hesitate to go (to) the Gingell ceramics workshop. You will find inspiring pieces made by hand, like mine. Thanks... for your kindness.”

Ceramics Designed for Durability That Will Last for Years
We explain more about this below, but we thought it’s quicker just to let our customers explain.
So… what is it that we do?
“[Ceramics] sturdy enough to use everyday.”
“Beautiful creations ... perfect to pimp your dinner table to the next level!”
“I thought that they would be really delicate and break or chip easily but.. .they have done really well. I can't wait to buy more...”
Sustainable Production - In running our studio we’ve made choices to try and make the world a little better. Like using recycled materials, ethical insurance and renewable energy.
Uniquely Handmade - There's only one. Each one is handmade and will show slight variations and patterns depending on the exploration and creativity of the maker.
Makers Mark - Every individual piece is hand stamped by the artist. Leaving a reminder of the individual care put into its creation.
Tested Durability - Ceramics made to last a lifetime. We fire our handmade ceramics to 1236ºC (cone 6). The result is a durable ceramic piece ready for daily use.
Hand Glazed - Our glaze is produced in small batches in our studio. It is applied to each piece individually, highlighting the contours of the ceramics.
“BUT… can I put them in the dishwasher? Microwave? REALLY just use these unique contemporary ceramics everyday like normal?”
We get this question a lot.
The short answer is “YES!”
The long answer is… well it’s long so we thought it would be better to just show you in a short video. We hope that is long enough of an answer for you. 🙂
But… these instructions are not just for our ceramics, but also for all of your ceramics as they are just the same as your everyday plates and dishes. Well, except they look spiffy keen.
“What? You only produce small quantities of ceramics at a time?”
We can manage orders for dinnerware sets for small boutique restaurants, private chefs and normal humans just like you.
But, we don’t always have availability as we have other orders to make.
🌟[Exclusive] First to know list.
The easiest way to know when we have time available is sign up below and we’ll let you know when a time slot is available to make custom dinnerware sets. Oh, you also get to know when we are making available new ceramics fresh out of the kiln. You’ll be the first to know.
• Wind and solar electricity - your ceramics are kiln fired with 100% renewable energy so you are not adding global warming
• Respect human rights - we purchase ethical insurance that does not fund wars, that respects human rights and the environment so you are too
• Recycled materials - production and shipping materials are chosen for their recycled content, minimizing plastic use and reduction of waste.
We’re not perfect, but we try to make the world a little bit better with each business decision. Buying raw materials and product we put these principles to practice as best we can. We hope these choices also are reflected in our handmade ceramics and allows you to know how your ceramics are made.
Each of our clay bodies and glazes we test to ensure they are performing properly so they last as expected.
What is it we do?
We test for hot and cold thermal shock, alkali and acid resistance. This involves cooling them in a freezer and heating in an oven, exposing them to acid and alkali, pouring boiling water on them and other exciting things.
You can feel confident the ceramics we make by hand are durable and will last in your home.
Each one is handmade and will show slight variations and patterns. The ceramic shapes, colors, and decorations constantly change and evolve.
What does “there’s only one” mean?
When offered for sale each piece is photographed, documented and given a unique inventory number and is a quantity of one. When you buy our ceramics you get that exact piece and it is removed from inventory.
Will you make more?
We constantly change our designs and shapes. We make small batches of shapes, colors, glazes. Some have similar designs, but no two are the same. As these designs are changing all the time, come back to explore new shapes and colors - season to season kiln load to kiln load.
That’s what we mean that for each piece “there’s only one.”
Our Makers Mark
Why do we have two marks?
We use two marks for the ceramics. If space allows the larger Taller Gingell mark is used. Sometimes the piece is too small or has too intricate of a design for this mark. In this case Wendy places her initial stamp of WG.
What are the other markings I see on some pieces?
These marks are to identify pieces that use a specific glaze, clay body or other modification.
It’s based on our recipes we mix the components to create the glaze for the latest batch of ceramics.
Each of the glazes and recipes we use is chosen for their durability, compatibility with each clay body and firing temperatures in the kiln.
The glaze is applied one by one to each piece. The result of individual glazing highlights the contours of the ceramics. The result is a readily identifiable surface of hand glazed ceramics.
Did you really go and see those windmills?
Our electricity supplier is Holaluz. Check them out, they offer a great service.
"So why do you do this?" Folks ask.
Short answer - Because we care
Long answer - well, when we set up our studio we asked:
• What kind of company we wanted?
• How to make a really great product?
• What could we do to...
MAKE THE WORLD SPIN A LITTLE BETTER
Making products by hand takes a lot of personal energy and care every day. By putting that much of ourselves into every product we wanted to make sure our studio also reflected that effort.
So that's why...
• We mix small batch glazes and slip bodies • Our clays come from local sources near our studio • We select clay and fire our products for durability that will last for years • 100% renewable energy is used to fire our ceramic kilns • 100% ethical insurance, we support peace ✌️and kindness ❤️
