What happens if my residency proposal changes?

Well, that’s ok, stuff changes, ideas evolve. Artists are welcome to come to work in the studio. You also can complete grant proposals, write a thesis, approach galeries or visit the cultural offerings of Barcelona.

Is a creative outcome expected while I’m a resident?

There are no expectations. The residency program is for self-motivated artists with no formal art critiques. We provide help but no formal schedule or structure.

Is Taller Gingell wheelchair accessible?

Our showroom, production studio and offices meet Barcelona city handicap requirements and are wheelchair accessible. There is a small step at the entrance due to historic preservation requirements.

The residency living and studio space are not wheelchair accessible.

What do I need to consider about COVID-19?

We follow all COVID-19 requirements of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Government of Spain.

Here’s a link to the Spanish government website https://spth.gob.es/

Being a residency, you are required to follow the above requirements.

What should I bring with me?

We provide basic linens, blankets, cleaning supplies, clothes washer and studio space. Residents are responsible for all groceries, supplies, transportation and other needs.

What supplies do you provide?

None. You are responsible for all supplies, but we help you out by offering local supplier information.

Can I take a week long intensive class with you to learn new skills?

We offer a 5 day, 20 hour handbuilding intensive class. You are welcome to sign up for this class or any of our regular classes as a resident. The cost for the class is not included in the price of the residency.

Can you help me get supplies?

As a production studio, we have relationships with all major local suppliers. As part of your residency we will:

  • We will supply you with contact information for the two main ceramic suppliers in Barcelona. It’s about a 10 to 15 minute walk to both of them. You can go later and get the essentials or place an order for delivery to their store or to the residency
  • Show you the websites where you can place orders for supplies
  • Give you advice on ordering and delivery timelines
  • Let you know when we are ordering for delivery of supplies so you can add to our orders to reduce your delivery fees
  • Give ordering advice before you arrive so you have items available on arrival
  • Most of what you need is a 10 to 15 minute walk away. A bit of planning helps to get items delivered from warehouses outside Barcelona.

Where can I get supplies?

Our ceramic materials come from Anper Ceramica and Sio-2. They have offices about 10 to 15 minute walk from the studio. They have many supplies on hand and also deliver for a fee, but can take up to 7 to 10 days for delivery.

Servei Estacio (www.serveiestacio.com) is a large art and hardware store downtown Barcelona. It's a 20 minute walk.

There are two local hardware stores within a 2 minute walk from the studio. Also, chain hardware stores Bauhaus (www.bauhaus.es) and Leroy Merlin (www.leroymerlin.es) are a 20 - 30 minute walk from the studio.

Can my partner and children come to my residency?

We’re set up for hosting yourself and your partner. We do not accept children.

Please see our prices for more people.

It in no way impacts your application and or acceptance.

If both of you are artists and are applying for a residency, submit individual applications. Please note on each application that you are applying together.

If a partner wishes to use the resident’s studio as a non-resident, there is an extra fee.

What is the length of residency?

For a solo artist €2.000 for a 5 week residency. This includes a resident studio space, lodging with private bedroom and shared living space downtown Barcelona, Spain.

How do I know when dates are available?

We encourage artists to apply with thought and in advance. We strongly suggest you select three dates including dates a year or so into the future. That way we can try and accommodate all artists that are accepted.

What’s included in the residency price?

Can you store stuff for me?

No. Sorry we do not store or hold items for folks. Please make arrangements to ship or store items elsewhere when the residency ends.

On a case-by-case basis we can accept packages a few days before your residency begins. Sorry we cannot go pick them up at the post office.

What’s the best way to ship stuff?

Most likely not the post office. Let us know what you want to ship and we can give you some advice on what options you have to get it to where you want it to go.

Sorry we do not ship stuff for folks.

What is the security deposit for?

We’re trying to keep a running ceramics resident space. So if something gets broken or goes missing during your stay we have some way to replace or fix it for the next artist. We understand accidents happen.

Most of the time folks get a full refund of the security deposit. We will let you know and review this with you before you head out.

Can I smoke?

No. Our entire facility is 100% smoke free, both inside and outside. There is no smoking allowed. There are no exceptions.

Can my dog come with me?

Sorry no pets allowed.

On site is a little black dog whose name is Maria Isabel. She is either your best friend or trouble depending what you leave for her to chew up. She does roam the shared areas of the resident space and she’s going to show up to check you out.

Do you accept international applicants?

Yes, we accept international applicants. If needed, the artist is responsible to work with their consulate to get any necessary visas. We are not a sponsoring organisation. We do not offer an invitation letter in support of a visa application.

Can I cancel my residency?

Life happens, things change. We understand.

If you need to try and reschedule your residency after you’ve made the deposit:

90 plus days before your arrival date. We’ll let you know our resident artist availability and see if we can get you a new date that works. We'll apply your deposit to your new residency. Alternatively we will refund your deposit, minus transfer fees.

Less than 90 days before your arrival date. We most likely won’t find an individual to fill the vacancy. In this scenario you will lose your deposit and we’ll cancel your residency.

In any case if we can find a new applicant for the time of your cancellation we’ll refund your deposit.

Is wi-fi available?

Yes, our entire space is wifi accessible. We have one high speed internet connection shared by all on the property.

What’s the weather like in Barcelona?

Summer is beautiful. Usually around 25 - 30ºC(80- 90ºF) with a cool breeze, once in a while we get a heat wave and the temperature goes up.

Fall is beautiful. Usually around 15 - 25ºC (60 - 80ºF) with a cool breeze, and once in a while you get a rain storm that rolls through.

Winter is great but can get chilly. Usually around 5 - 15ºC (40 - 55ºF). Some days are clear, others some rain. Every 5 years it snows for a few hours.

Spring is beautiful, but a little chilly too. Usually 10 - 25ºC (50 - 75ºF). Alternating between sun and rain. Once in a while a hail storm treats us to a display.

We have air conditioning but don’t use it as we find it’s unnecessary. In the winter, we have heat and we provide blankets. In the winter it gets chilly, so bring a warm coat, hat and gloves. In summer, bring sunscreen and shorts plus a swimsuit for the beach.

Can friends stay while I’m a resident artist?

No. Only people listed on the residency agreement are permitted on the premises. No other people are allowed in the residency space. No exceptions.

Can I work and earn money while I’m a resident artist?

We offer no employment opportunities.

You are free to use your ceramics residency as you would like, if working to earn money is part of that we wish you the best.

Is the beach nearby?

Yes, it is a 30 minute walk / 10 minute bike away. Plus there are endless beach towns and amazing hiking trails outside of Barcelona. They're accessible by public transportation that are fun to explore.
