Ceramics Residency Location and Facilities

The residency  program offers an opportunity to work and live on site at a ceramic design and production studio downtown Barcelona, Spain. Located on the mediterranean sea it’s a European city of 5.6 million people. 

It’s a unique environment conducive to creativity and artistic exploration. We have no production expectations. Artists are free to experience Barcelona's cultural offerings, delve into your studio work, or a mix of each.

Residents live minutes walk away from renowned opera, jazz, museums, architecture, concerts and ongoing cultural events.

Located downtown in the city of Barcelona in the Poble-sec neighborhood. Our location is about a 10-12 minute walk to the city center or waterfront. A 5 minute walk you'll find Montjuïc, a 4 km² wooded park, offering hiking trails, museums and scenic overlooks of Barcelona. It is also the site of the Barcelona 1992 Olympic venues. Oh, yes the beach is a 30 minute walk or subway ride.

Facility

The Taller Gingell ceramics space is approximately 200 m² (2.200 ft²). Residents enjoy a dedicated workspace, shared living/dining room, kitchen and bathroom facilities. Bedrooms are private.

Our facility is 100% smoke free. No smoking is allowed.

Residents also have access to a shared 30 m² (325 ft²) outdoor terrace garden.

Besides residency spaces, Taller Gingell has a 75 m² (800 ft²) production ceramics studio and offices plus a 25 m² (270 ft²) showroom next to the residency area.

Resident Studio

The resident studio space is 18 m² (200 ft²). The space can accommodate two artists. Artist workstations have a height adjustable work table, a wheeled cart and ample shelving. A wheel is available on request.

Space and Amenities

As a working ceramics studio we have many items that are available for limited shared or special use. They are not located in the resident studio but are on-site. 

Kilns 

We have three Rohde electric kilns available for shared use.

• Test kiln - 20 liter kiln up to 2,282º F - 1,250° C
• Round top loading - 60 liter kiln up to 2,282º F - 1,250° C
• Large front loading - 150 liter kiln up to 2,372º F - 1,300° C

All kilns use a programmable multi-step TC304 controller.

Wheels

We have one Shimpo wheel available for limited shared use.

Photography

On request photography equipment is available. It includes a tripod, studio lighting and backdrop for documenting work.

Resident Accommodations

Artists, Artists Groups and Partners

We encourage artists to apply as a group of two artists or with their non-artist partner. This is a unique opportunity for artists. Groups of two artists, and couples can apply.

The arrangement of our accommodation includes private sleeping rooms. The living/sleeping area is open concept which leads to limited privacy as sound travels. We’ve found it works best if everyone knows each other.

Comfortable examples that work:

Two artists apply as a group for a specific time enjoying the artist residency and the cultural surroundings of Barcelona

A couple apply where one is a working artist and the second is accompanying them to enjoy a new place during the residency

A single artist applies and enjoys the entire residency space themselves.

Two single artists apply separately and agree in advance that they are comfortable with the accommodations and are paired with a second artist.

Communal Space. Private from 20:00 - 09:00 daily (8PM - 9AM)

A 60 m² (650 ft²) communal space including a kitchen and living room. Bedrooms are private. It also connects to a 30 m² (325 ft²) shared outdoor garden terrace.
