Introduction to Handbuilding
Our Introduction to Handbuilding course is on Fridays with classes available in the morning or the evening.
Learn ceramic handbuilding. In this four part ceramics course you will build your clay skills by exploring multiple hand building techniques. In addition, we will learn decoration techniques as time allows.
Your teacher, Wendy, will lead students during this 2 hour class for four weeks. Sign-up on your own or with a friend - this is an open, friendly environment.
No prior ceramics experience is necessary.
Everything is included. No need to bring anything special with you, just arrive 5 minutes before class. We’ll have an apron ready for you.
Instruction is in Spanish and /or English based on your preferences.
What you’ll learn and what we’ll do
On arrival we’ll show you our small batch ceramics workshop. Every day we’re here making ceramics for folks.
From there we’ll get to work, learning hand construction techniques. The construction techniques include: pinching, coiling, slab construction, and others.
The course will also introduce various decoration techniques. We will introduce the use of slip, sprigs, carving, and sgraffito as decoration, balancing time and student interest.
Each class is 2 hours per week for 4 weeks.
The price is €100 total per person for all four classes.
The first hour of each class is for learning a new construction technique. The second hour is used to practice these new learnings.
Materials and kiln firings are included. Each student can select 4 items to kiln fire. A few weeks later your finished pieces come out of the kiln and are ready to be picked up.
